That´s why I´m trying to put together what I know and daily discover and what real people (friends, hotel guests, etc.) tell me.
I think you´ll find some interesting stuff here and I'll appreciate your feedback, of course!

venice gondola tour venice restaurant
A cosy restaurant in the popular via garibaldi (Castello). Frequented by venetians, this place serves probably the best fresh fish dishes in town, still at a reasonable price. They have a starting menu at 30 euro with a good selection of the most appreciated venetian specialities. Ask for Donatello or Sergio and feel free to say you’ve been recommended by Michele (Me!) at Venicedetour: they’ll surely even more kind with service and price!

Many people will have heard about venice floods today dec. 1st 2008.
What a spectacle! What a drama.

My daughter didn’t want to enter the school today ’cause she liked wandering (swimming!) around hidden venice streets together with me. ”you must go in”, I said! What a pity..
I came back alone and what a surprise looking at the people trying to fight against the high tide: too much to do and water seems not stopping, the forecasted maximum was for 11.00 but the municipality speakers update were for 12.00am with 20-30 cm more to come. I saw people talking about money they loose for restoration works in a ground floor house. I’m so so sad ..
I’ve found some pictures in the corriere.it website and I’d like to share with all of you!
Let me say as a venetian, this is a spectacle anyway. Sometimes we cry but the water goes down all the times and we quickly clean our old painful city and bring it to its splendour… Waiting for the big MOSE project (mobile barriers to save venice from high tides) that has to come one day.
To all the people cancelling their reservations in Venice hotels after watching the tv news about the venice high tide: water level always go down to normality after 2-4 hours during the same day. All venetians quickly clean up their shops, hotels, etc. There is no risk at all for anybody coming here after a high tide. Streets are dried; sights, shops, restaurants. public transport, etc. are fully available as usual!

What a fabolous trip back to the Serenissima centuries!

There is a great exhibition in Venice until the next october at Arsenale (Museo Storico Navale) “L’arte dei Remeri” celebrating the 700 years of the tradition to build wooded boats and gondolas in venice.
I like what thay say about the gondola: “The gondola is not just a boat.
It is a dynamic system in which the boat, the water [the artisans who create it] and the gondolier participate..”
Let’s forget that the gondola ride is probably the most touristy activity in Venice nowadays and think on it’s poetry and on its glorious past!
